Some of what you mentioned pertains to student-created screencasts as well! They have a chance to hear themselves and to realize that they can make it better. The technology is fun to use, so they don't seem to mind recording and re-recording to get the desired outcome. And those shy students who don't like to be called on in class can record short segments and edit out the places where their voice cracked, or they mispronounced a word, or lost their train of thought.
